My name is Verneri Salonen (b.1989), and I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Helsinki. For me, art is a way to engage with an inner longing for connection and meaning, and to seek form for that experience. At the moment, my work is guided by an interest in experimental exhibition spaces and in the traditional craft of lure-making that has been passed down in my family, which I playfully combine with contemporary sculpture. In my works, I explore the tension between promise and unfulfillment.
I work with media art, installation, sculpture, and lens-based media. I enjoy exploring the interplay between different techniques and the shifting meanings they generate. I choose the most suitable materials and methods for each project intuitively.
I actively participate in residencies, exhibitions, and other events both in Finland and internationally. I am a founding member and treasurer of Kino Club Helsinki, a registered association and artist collective that has produced thematic and experimental moving image events and group exhibitions since 2017.
